Climate Justice & Human Rights

The Climate Justice & Human Rights policy group supports the following ideas:

  • Develop a statewide climate adaptation and resilience implementation plan

  • Education; Sustainability; Cultural Competency; Department of Education; University of Hawaii

    • DOE develops and implements climate education, environmental sustainability, and indigenous knowledge into the K-12 curriculum. Establish climate education and environmental sustainability teacher training and professional development programs

  • Cultural Appropriateness: Request an OHA scope review to address disparities

    • Including health, housing, education, etc. Hawaiian traditional knowledge contributes to tackling all of the issues that we are facing. When Kanaka is given the ability to thrive, everyone else will thrive.

  • Mental Health: Services for children and adolescents

    • Increase funding and support and systems for HDOH

  • Bill of Rights for the Hawaiian Islands Coral Reefs

    • (1) The Hawaiian Islands Coral Reefs possesses the fundamental and inalienable right—

    • (a) to naturally exist, flourish, regenerate, and evolve;

    • (b) to a climate system unaltered by human-caused pollution or emissions; and

    • (c) to a natural environment unaltered by human-caused pollution or emissions, or by human activity.
