Regenerative Food Systems

Mahalo for growing our food future! Youth leaders are working to strengthen local farming, food security, and ʻāina-based education. As we head into session, we’re building on these priorities to expand programs that connect students, farmers, and communities across Hawaiʻi.

2025 Key Policy Priorities:

  • Integrate farming, gardening, and sustainability into K–12 and afterschool programs to connect students with the ʻāina.

  • Expand paid farming apprenticeships for youth to grow Hawaiʻi’s next generation of farmers.

  • Support local farmers through DOE partnerships and fair-wage initiatives that strengthen farm-to-school programs.

  • Reduce dependence on imported food and food waste by investing in local supply chains.

  • Shift public attitudes to value local agriculture and de-stigmatize farm work as essential to community resilience.

These priorities help support local food systems, protect the environment, and make sure everyone has access to healthy meals. Want to make a difference? Speak up and support these policies! 🎤🙌

2026 Policy priorities will be updated soon.  Once updated, track youth-supported climate bills in Hawaiʻi.
