Oceans & Biodiversity

Affiliated with the Jane Goodall Institute, the Oceans & Biodiversity working group is excited to serve Hawaii and Climate Future Forum as the first youth-led policy group focused on conservation across species and biomes. From mauka to makai, the Oceans & Biodiversity working group hopes to bridge the gap between ecology and legislative action through fostering partnerships and mentorships with scientific researchers and nonprofit organizations.

2026 Policy Priorities:

SB3014 – Honu Protection
Increases fines for harassing or harming protected sea turtles.

SB3253 SD1 – Hawaiʻi Conservation Sanctuary Corporation
Creates a new corporation to establish wildlife sanctuaries and protect endangered species.

SB2975 SD1 – Marine Life Conservation Districts (Oʻahu)
Allows DLNR to temporarily close marine conservation areas and regulate commercial activity to protect marine ecosystems.
